About the Recipe

For those that don't prefer cranberries in general or are just wildflowers like myself! This is a great wildflower alternative to traditional holiday jellied-cranberry sauce! Have fun making and absolutely Enjoy!!

Ingredients

All ingredients for this recipe I easily find in the organic section of my local grocer. But, you may also find them at area health food stores and online. I have found, depending on store and product labeling, ingredient may state Hibiscus or may state Jamaica. I have also found dry Lavender in spice aisles as well. Dry Cilantro may be substituted, though fresh is definitely better to me. Last note, if you prefer less gel consistency, decrease Chia by 1 tbsp.

  • 4 cups Dried Hibiscus (Flor de Jamaica)

  • 4 ½ cups of Water

  • ½ cup Dried Lavender

  • 1/3 cup Finely Minced Fresh Cilantro

  • 1 ½ cups Cool Water

  • ¼ cup Lime Juice ¾ cup Agave

  • 4 tbsp Chia seeds

(Optional) If you like a little spice, sprinkle in a 1/2 tsp of Mexican Basil or a pinch of Cayenne!

Preparation

  • Place the Hibiscus and 4 ½ cups Water into a large heavy bottomed saucepot.

  • Bring to a boil.

  • Reduce heat and low simmer, uncovered, for about 15-20 minutes (or until Hibiscus is super soft).

  • Remove from heat.

  • Stir the Lavender and Cilantro into the saucepot with the Hibiscus, cover and let stand for 10 minutes.

  • After 10 minutes, uncover and use a bean masher to break down any extra-large pieces of Hibiscus so the mixture is at a uniform course relish-like consistency.

  • Add in 1 ½ cups Cool Water, Lime Juice, Agave and Chia Seeds, stir until seeds are well blended in.

  • Let the mixture stand uncovered for a minimum of 20 minutes to allow the chia seeds to soften and the sauce to come together completely.

At this point, the sauce is done! Now, it’s all about preference of serving temperature!

Transfer into a pretty dish and serve right away if you prefer a more room temp sauce!

Or, if you prefer it to be cooler, transfer it into a refrigerator safe dish and serve later.

Use any remaining sauce within a week or so.

Enjoy!!
