Adventuring through the Cabbage Patch!

Updated: Nov 9, 2023

Adventuring through the cabbage patch today and all are beautifully harvest ready! (I prefer

December or July planting to get beauties like these come March/October)

Did you know cabbage is also an herb?

Cabbage (Brassica oleracea) is not just any delicious cruciferous leafy veggie. It’s a biennial

herb considered a powerful super food and anti-inflammatory believed to possibly contain a host of its’ own magic when it comes to healing home remedies and, of course, absolutely tasty recipes galore!

Dating back to 4000 B.C. (China) 1000 B.C. (Europe) and the1600s right here in the US, this round herb has been in culinary use and believed to possibly help with a series of ailments ranging from arthritis (and other unrelated swellings, and or joint swelling/pain) ulcers and other varying tummy troubles and morning sickness. Even insomnia makes the list as some believe the magnesium content in cabbage possibly helps to calm the nerves for a good night's rest!

Cabbage home remedies are also multi–faceted as usage ranges from long-believed folklore of applying the leaves in wrap form (both hot and cold compress) directly to affected areas as a possible remedy to reduce swollen joints and ease painful inflamed areas to drinking cabbage juice as a possible remedy for ulcers.

Either way, inside or out, cabbage is layered with super nutrients (vitamin C, K, and Potassium to name a few) (purple cabbage is known to be a good source of Vit A) and well worth researching into. So, drink up, steam, boil, fry, sauté, grill, roast, make into soup, casserole, slaw, salad or fitters! Be creative! The possibilities of cabbage are endless!

*And though there is little known evidence of side effects from cabbage, it is always a great idea to consult your healthcare provider before taking in any form.©
